Good app, but still buggy in new iteration

I like that I can access the features of this app directly from my photos app. It works pretty well. It’s not as “fine-tunable” as the content fill function in Photoshop, but it doesn’t cost as much and it’s infinitely easier to use. I find it’s much more effective to remove items one at a time instead of masking all unwanted objects and erasing them in one, fell swoop. The batch erase leaves you with a lot of weird artifacts. But the one-at-a-time approach, though more time-consuming, allows you to tweak each erase and (I guess) allows the program to apply a more bespoke algorithm to each problem spot instead of a blanket algorithm for a number of spots. That’s just my guess after a little trial-and-error. My one gripe is that the clone/stamp tool seems to be broken in this update. I can use it for one or two spots and then it stops working. I can choose a source with the crosshairs and clone the selected source image onto the target spot, but when I release the overlay disappears. This is true in the photos app extension and in the stand-alone app. Also, in the photo app extension interface, the option key does not turn the clone/stamp icon into crosshairs, although it does still function to select a source area. All in all, a very useful app. But because it’s not as powerful as Photoshop’s tool, you do often need to go back in and clean up with the clone/stamp, which is not functioning correctly in this release. So when that tool gets fixed, I would give it a 4-star review or maybe even 5-star based on its low price and integration into the photos app.

snapheal.

i have just about all of the McPhun apps for both mac and any they have for devices. I love them all and they let me do fabulous repairs to my photos without a big learning curve. they are all worth every penny for someone like me. I have Photoshop, but these are my goto suite for fixing my pics.

The best object removal in the world.

Snapheal was the first and is still the best. I like the speed and the quality of the object removal. You may need some additional edits from time to time (also can be done in Snapheal), but in most cases the the results are astonishing, as if nothing was there. Highly recommend! Great to be able to use it as Photos extensions as well. Befunky is cool too.

Glad I got it

It is one of my favorite editing app. Glad to get it easily from Photos - works great!

Unimpressed

I am not impressed with this app at all. With the purchase of this app, I no longer trust user reviews to guide me in my app store purchasing decisions. This app may be useful to some but I have actual photoshop skills and this app does a smidgen of what photoshop can do, which is useless to me. I’d also like to point out that these developers think it is fun to add “facts about the world” to their app. As though it makes it “fun to use”. However, I found the addition to be distracting and probably only inserted to divert the attention away from the fact that the app does do very little in comparison to major photo editing tools. I suggest you use google to learn how to use pixelmator or photoshop or any other major photo editor rather than these small apps that do one or two things like this one does. I wish I had my $15 bucks back!

Does not work as a Photos Extension, don’t buy until that is fixed

As a standalone app it works, as a Photos extension it doesn’t. As an extension it is very sluggish and renders Photos inoperable. Emailed tech support and they advised uninstalling the app and redownload and reinstall which I did. Upon using it again it worked a little better one time only and then the same problem recurred. That means everytime I would like to use it I have to uninstall it then redownload and reinstall! NOT GOOD. Disabling it as an extension while in Photos, restores Photos functionality, while renebling it causes Photos to be very sluggish. The app does not appear to be properly optimized for extension. So in order to use it, I have to export the photo from Photos, work on it and then send it to Photos again, not good at all, sort of defeat the purpose. I hope the next version is better optimized otherwise I would have just wasted $15.

Can’t beat the price and features!!!

I used Snapheal for my art project and fixed dozens of old scanned photos. The app is extremely helpful, simple and fast. I like the fact that you can adjust the erasing modes and selectively adjust parts of the images. This is extremely useful and I highly advice you to get Snapselect for your photos. Here are some things I like most. A possibility to change the erasing result. If I don’t like it from the first try, I can change the mode. This is something that is not possible in other software, even in Photoshop. I also like the different precisions, so if I have some simple task, I can use a basic precision and it will be very fast. When I was fixing the scratches on my uncle’s scanned photo, I used the highest precision - it took about a minute longer, but I got the result I wanted. It’s also great as extension in El Capitan. Wish this happened earlier, as I am using Photos as my main photo app.

Not very good. Any complex backgroud and this app is useless.

If the backgroud or object you are removing is surrounded by any kind of complex background this app just fails. You could use any healing tool in any photo app to get same results as this app. Not impressed.

Very helpful

I read a review on cultofmac.com about this app. So far I really like it. It’s fast and gives you more options than any similar app. I’ve tried Photos and Pixelmator to remove objects, but if you don’t like the result, you can’t get a second chance. With Snapheal you can, as it brings different erasing modes. Highly recommended for everyone.

Overrated

I wanted Snapheal to live up to its reviews. I really NEED such a tool. I too have 100s of photos w/ telephone wires and poles running through them. I was hoping to “heal” those photos. 1) On all 3 levels (i.e. norm, high, highest), the app removed the distracting element BUT distorted the part of the photo where I removed an electrical wire. 2) No “undo” feature. If the resulting “fix” doesn’t create the look you desire, the app does NOT allow you to undo the operation. You must cancel out of the app where changes (even satisfactory prior changes) are not saved. 3) Further, on a new Macbook Pro the app takes several seconds to render the photo. In the meantime, developers felt it necessary to insert “fun facts” in order to pass the time during rendering. At least I now know (thanks to one of these “fun facts” that it’s permitted and legal to beat a woman with a belt provided the belt is at least 2” wide or something like that. If that’s supposed to be “fun,” I’ll stick with waiting for the photo “fix” to render. Better yet, I’ll request a refund and wait for an extension/app that works.

Great app!

Snapheal is replaced for me all default editing tools in Photos. Highly recommended!!

Breaking bad

I saw that episode where they are talking about how cool it would be if you could erase something from your memory. Well, I don’t know about that, but Snapheal is a pretty awesome software to erase objects and strange people. Worked magic with my travel shots.

I’m a believer

It’s not always you find the app that claims to do better job than Photosho and actually does. It’s not perfect, but for the price - it’s really good. I wish it had layers or more editing tools. For removing items and fixing skin - this is a dope software. I like that you can switch between multiple modes for a better result. I don’t understand the precision really as it seems to do the same job on basic and advanced, just takes less time. But maybe it’s just me. Very impressive with portraits, I also use an expensive Portrait Pro and the healing tool is the same as with Snapheal, but the price is different. Definitely give this app a try. I bought it after I tried it on their site.

All my old photos fixed… one app

When I had to restore my scanned photos, I knew I need this app. As a professional photographer, I find its always nice to have a simple tool to go along with the Aperture or Lightroom. Snapheal has what you need to fix and improve the photo. Totally worth the price of admission!

Snapheal and Photos.

Update from the last review: pretty cool new logo. I also like how the new version handles RAW. October review: Nice to see Snapheal working with Photos. I am now waiting for the DXO and my kit will be complete. Thank you, very powerful tools.

Does what it says.

Using this app few years. Its very good and simple. But as a long time user, I have couple of suggestions: - Let the software figure out the best mode itself, without us switching between modes (for instance it will itself identify a portrait) - I like the laso tool and waiting for the edge detection - How about support for 64 RAW files? - I would like to be able to export my files 500px, as I use it as my default photo gallery - Also add more fun facts, they are cool.

Great price and great results

For $15 it is a no brainer, even if you use it for just 1 or 2 photos, get this app. Very simple. Glad I’ve got it.

Pretty Awesome!

This app can do some magic stuff. Pretty impressive for only 15 bucks. I removed a few people and a boat from a pano photo of the Golden Gate Bridge, and it now looks ready to print! I have had one issue: when using Extensions in the Photos app, I have noticed the RAM used by the Snapheal app escalating quickly, nearing 4GB of usage, then my iMac crashed. Twice. My 5k iMac has never crashed unexpectedly ever. There may be a problem within the app. Seemed as the more red spots I dropped to “heal,” the slower the response time was and then black screen/automatic restart. Might be worth looking into. I have 8GB RAM at this time. Otherwise, this app can do some great work with very litle practice needed on how to do it.

destroyed a treasured photo

The first time I used this extension inside of Photos, everything looked great until I hit the “save” button. Then suddently my picture became a blurry mess, and even worse the menu item to revert to original became greyed out. This app caused data loss and an important picture was lost! I contacted support and provided them with everything they asked for, but they stopped responding to me and were ultimately unhelpful.

It’s Fine

I purchased Snapheal as a quick solution to a problem that I can use inside of the new Apple Photos App. It’s not a great tool but its a fine choice for quick fixes, anything else I open a real photo editor and do work in there. The company also uses the notification feature to advertise other 3rd party products to you; like one I recieved today that told me to watch a “Learn how to use photoshop” video. I’m not interested in apps that I purchase advertise to me. So I’m looking for a replacement app.
